Tribute Giving:

Any donation may be made to honour, celebrate, remember or support a loved one. All tribute gifts that the Scleroderma Society receives are acknowledged by sending notification to the family or whoever you may specify of your kind gift.

A Memorial Gift - Often families who have suffered a recent loss ask that donations be made to the Scleroderma Society in lieu of flowers. Other times, individuals want to remember and celebrate a loved one’s life by making a special contribution in his or her name.

Gift to Honour - Make a gift donation to honour someone special in your life such as friends or family members.

A Health care Professional Tribute - Honour a health care professional especially helpful to you or some you love.

Special Occasion Gift - Make a gift donation to the Scleroderma Society to celebrate a special life events, such as weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or special recognition by asking for donations to be made to the Scleroderma Society in lieu of gifts.

Planned Giving:

Thoughtfully planned gifts, such a gift in you Will or a gift of life insurance, are gifts that can form the financial bedrock for funding much needed research into the causes and cure for Scleroderma, reaching out to Scleroderma patients across the province, providing educational programs and support group services provided by the Scleroderma Society of Ontario.

In addition to providing much needed funds to support the objects of the Scleroderma Society of Ontario, there are also tax benefits some planned gifts can provide.   Charitable donations made through your Will are eligible for a tax credit equal to 100% of your net income in the year of your death.  If your gift is in excess of 100% of your net income, your gift may be carried back one year and applied to 100% of your next income in the prior year.   

Wills and Bequests - Preparing a Will is one way to ensure that you adequately provide for those you care about. In addition to planning for those you love, your Will also allows you to benefit the Scleroderma Society of Ontario through a gift of money, property and other assets.

Everyone should have a Will, regardless of age or health.  In fact, we would encourage you to prepare you Will when you are feeling great and have the time to give full consideration to your wishes.  

Kinds of bequests A gift in a Will is called a “bequests” and can be in the form of cash, real estate, securities, tangible personal property or other assets.   There are a number of different types of bequests that you may wish to consider.

Specific Bequest: The Scleroderma Society of Ontario would receive from your estate a specific dollar amount that you have identified or a particular item or asset of value. The advantage of making a specific gift is that it can be precisely identified and is simple to administer by your executor.

Residuary Bequest: The Scleroderma Society of Ontario would receive a percentage of the remainder of your estate. The actual value is sensitive to any changes in the value of your estate.

Unrestricted Bequests:  In order to make certain that your gift to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario is directed in accordance with your wishes, it is important that the bequest is set out correctly in your Will.  Here is some suggested language to provide for the Scleroderma Society of Ontario in your Will.

Sample Wording:

I give to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario $______ for use as the Scleroderma Society of Ontario may deem appropriate.  

                                        OR

I give to The Scleroderma Society of Ontario ____% of my estate for use as the Scleroderma Society of Ontario may deem appropriate.                                         OR

I give to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario all of the residue of my estate for use as the Scleroderma Society of Ontario may deem appropriate.

Restricted Bequests:  The Scleroderma Society of Ontario would prefer that any gifts are unrestricted (you allow the Scleroderma Society of Ontario to determine the best way to direct your gift), but we would be happy to hear from you if you have an idea for a specific program you would like to see and want to support.   If you are thinking about making a Restricted Bequest, we would ask that you and your lawyer contact the Scleroderma Society of Ontario and discuss your ideas so that we can help ensure that your estate plan provides the maximum potential benefit.

In-Kind Giving:

The Scleroderma Society of Ontario is pleased to receive in-kind donations of anything from office equipment or supplies that we can use in our daily operations to airline miles or prizes that we can use in a raffle or auction fund-raiser.

Workplace Giving:

There are several ways to give to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario through, or in conjunction with, your workplace.  Many employers match their employees’ charitable donations via a Matching Gift Program. Check and see if your employer is one of them.

Corporate Giving:

The Scleroderma Society of Ontario welcomes corporate gifts, and we will inform our members of any organization s generosity.
