A Night at the Oscars!
On April 22nd the grade 8 Students of Castlefrank Elementary School held their own interpretation of the Oscars. The night was extremely successful with over 200 guests, paparazzi, "celebrities" and beloved movie characters. Our class made over $1600.00 for the Scleroderma Society of Ontario. We cannot thank our sponsors enough for the donations they made to help make our night come alive; our teachers Mrs. Robertson & Mrs. Hyde for supporting and guiding us through the adventure and Mr. Kucerak and Mr. Ferguson for teaching us how to be great entrepreneurs. Finally, a thank you to Mrs. Headley for coming to talk to us about Scleroderma, and her own struggles with persevering with scleroderma for almost ten years. A big thanks to the entire class of 8A for all your work and dedication. This has been an unforgettable experience and we hope that this money is one step closer to finding a cure for Scleroderma.
Megan Bertrim & Abbie Garwood, Grade 8, Castlefrank Elementary School.

On August 31, 2008 Lynn Brunelle will be running the Disneyland Half Marathon and the Disney World Half Marathon on Jan 10, 2009, to raise awareness and funds for a disease close to her family. Lynn's mom, Jeannette, was diagnosed with Scleroderma in 1996. Through many ups and downs with the disease her Mom has stayed positive continuing to push herself no matter the pain and limitations. Jeannette has been an influence on others by being a shoulder for those newly diagnosed, and staying active in her community.
For the story on why Lynn chose Disneyland, visit the Scleroderma Ontario Forum here.

Patient Power debuted in February 2005 and is a weekly show hosted by Andrew Schorr, eleven-year leukemia survivor, patient educator and patient advocate. The show features renowned medical experts on topics that include cancer, pain, diabetes, and heart specialists, as well as experts in clinical trials and top pharmacists. The show serves to bring patients together in a radio and Internet community to help navigate an often inhospitable healthcare system. Patient Power takes questions from callers and Internet listeners on topics such as how to find the right doctor, how to advocate for effectively, when to get a second opinion from a specialist, and how to evaluate one treatment option over another.
